Welcome to our latest blog post where we dive into a conversation with Alex Wolf, Novig's newly appointed Chief Legal Officer, to learn more about his background, his perspective on Novig, and what excites him most about the future.
Welcome to the team Alex! Could you tell us what your new role entails?
Thanks, I’m really excited to be leading Novig’s legal and compliance functions. My focus is on staying ahead of the regulatory landscape, continuing to put our users first, and making sure we operate with integrity. Beyond that, I’m looking forward to contributing on broader strategic initiatives.
Tell us a little bit about your work history before Novig.
My first job was on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., working for a congressman from New York. When he was elected Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, I joined as an investigator. I was young at the time, and it was incredible to be part of nationally-publicized investigations and interview high-profile individuals.
After that, I worked as an associate at Sullivan & Cromwell, a global law firm headquartered in New York. It was a fast-paced environment where you needed to be ready for any type of issue on any given day. I had the opportunity to represent clients like Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, and entities in the crypto space. I also clerked for a federal judge in the Southern District of New York, which was a tremendous experience. One day I would be handling complex multi-district litigation, and the next I would be working on an organized crime trial.
I entered the gaming industry when I joined FanDuel, where I helped build out their compliance and investigations capabilities. FanDuel’s strong culture of compliance made it an excellent introduction to the industry. From there, I moved to Underdog to help strengthen their compliance and regulatory operations. As a startup, it was fast-paced and dynamic, very similar to what I have already seen here at Novig.
In your opinion, what is Novig’s competitive advantage in the space?
What really stands out to me is how much emphasis there is on transparency and fairness. The no-commission model is a perfect example of how this ethos shows up in our product. There is also a very collaborative culture, with a team that is driven and always looking for ways to improve, all with the goal of giving users the best possible experience.
What makes you most excited about Novig’s future?
There is a lot to be excited about, but for me, it starts with the people. Everyone here is incredibly talented, and there is a real understanding that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. That kind of alignment makes it possible to build something special.
Just as important, I am looking forward to helping Novig continue to put users first, not just through the product, but across the business as we grow. That mindset is core to Novig’s mission, and I am excited to help support that as part of the leadership team.
